about

So what is this thing? It represents a confluence of a lot of elements. At the forefront, after I opened the audience poll up (which has disappeared in the wake of my channel transition) I noticed there was a fairly even amount of you who were interested in either jazz or classical music. It's both a blessing and a curse to have accumulated such a diverse audience, heh. In a way, I found this supposed dichotomy also reflected in the "fanonized" relationship of two of my favorite background characters: Octavia and Vinyl Scratch. Their statistical incompatibility is part of what makes them such a great pair; opposites attract and all that. It was with these two things in mind that I got to writing this.

Essentially, take a classical piano trio (a la "Octavia's Triptych") and mix it with a funky jazz fusion and you have this improbable crossover which I hope, beyond serving as a reflection of the characters it represents, brings enjoyment to both classical and jazz listeners among you. I confess, I do not adhere to the fanon interpretation of Vinyl as a bass dropping dubstep DJ, but something a little...groovier than that. The theme should be obvious, it's my old muse! The My Little Pony Theme proper, in minor modality (f#). The central extended piano solo is a longer one than I usually record, but I think it has a good feel to it. I hope you agree and I hope you enjoy something a little classical and very funky!

This video also serves as feature for two of my favorite artists which have dabbled with these characters. The first image is by "yikOmega" and represents Octavia at her best and most contemplative. All the rest of the images, however, are by the hand of "swaetshirt." The emotive depth of his/her images is always arresting to me and it is a shame these selections may represent the last of his/her contributions to the fandom. I highly recommend visiting both deviantart profiles and posting encouraging words!
